Fundamentals

Following foundational principles of teaching and learning will greatly enhance the quality of instruction, course design, and student experiences. In the absence of reflection, the teaching practices that we employ are likely to be rooted in what we have observed or what worked for us. But what we have observed (or been subjected to) may not align with best practices. And what worked for us may not work for students who are different from us. For these reasons, the Center for Teaching Excellence encourages thoughtful reflection about how our teaching practices align with teaching and learning paradigms.
