Presenter Information

Presenter: Darren Henrichs, Instructional Assistant Professor, College of Arts and Sciences
Title: Waves of choice: Allowing students to control their learning
Description: When teaching an introductory course for non-majors, it can be challenging to keep students engaged in the material. By creatively utilizing built-in Canvas tools, it is possible to use them in new ways. Here, the Mastery Paths tool was used to provide a way for students to choose the order in which they learn the material.

Presenter: Rafael Landaverde, Assistant Professor, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
Title: Integrating AI into Social and Behavioral Agrifood Systems Research.
Description: This presentation explores the journey of novice social and behavioral researchers in agrifood systems as they work utilizing AI to define meaningful research questions and articulate the gaps in existing literature their studies aim to address.

Title: Real Time Coaching During Instructional Observation
Description: Bug In the Ear Technology (BIET) allows observers to provide feedback via an earpiece while instructors are actively engaged. Studies have demonstrated that BIET coaching can be an effective method for supporting instructors resulting in: significant increases in use of the targeted teaching strategies and student engagement (Scheeler, McKinnon, & Stout, 2012) and increased use of use of evidence-based communication strategies (Coogle, Ottley, Rahn, & Storie, 2016).This presentation describes the use of BIET technology as an observation and coaching tool used for the support of Graduate Teaching Assistants.

Presenter: Amanda Trimble, Clinical Assistant Professor, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences
Title: Utilizing Canvas to Implement Effective Team Based Learning Sessions
Description: This project is part of the Innovative Teaching Fellows’ Canvas Track and focuses on enhancing the implementation of Team-Based Learning (TBL) in a multi-instructor taught veterinary course by creating a unified Canvas template. This innovative template and redesign aim to reduce technological complexity, ensure consistency across sessions, and improve engagement for both students and faculty.

Presenter: Robert “Jay” Woodward, Clinical Professor, College of Education and Human Development
Title: Elevating Project Based Learning Through Digital Applications
Description: This session will highlight innovative methods that incorporated technology to enhance classroom communication. The project goal was to expand interactions beyond traditional classroom lectures and into a virtual design spaces. The alignment of digital tools to facilitate Collaborative Online International Learning (C.O.I.L.) efforts in an undergraduate core-curriculum social and behavioral science class will be emphasized. Effectiveness of these tools (Miro and Genially) will be communicated using survey data and artifacts generated from students. Information on how to gain access and implement these tools in their own classes or learning spaces will be shared with attendees
