Teaching Assistant Institute

The Teaching Assistant Institute (TAI), hosted by the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies and the Center for Teaching Excellence, is a university-mandated Institute designed to prepare graduate students for college classroom teaching. TAI is offered every year at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters and is required for new TAs who serve as recitation leaders, laboratory instructors, and/or full responsibility lecturers. TAI is a component of the Teaching Assistant Training and Evaluation Program (TATEP).

Fall 2021 dates will be announced soon.

To earn the TAI Certificate of Completion and receive TATEP compliance for the Teaching Assistant Institute, each new TA must:

  1. Register for a TAI Virtual Session in the Event Registration System (ERS).
  2. Complete the TAI Online Preparation Course in Gateway.
  3. Complete TAI content modules and quizzes in eCampus. Note: New TAs will ONLY be given access to the modules in eCampus following registration for a TAI Virtual Session. New TAs having registered for a TAI Virtual Session will be given access to content modules in eCampus beginning Monday, November 30, 2020.
