Canvas Learning Community Overview
The Canvas Learning Community is a year-long program designed to bring together instructors interested in exploring how Canvas can support course design, instructional practices, and student learning within their own contexts. Through biweekly meetings, participants will engage in a collaborative learning community where they explore strategies for designing accessible, student-centered courses in Canvas while discovering effective ways to leverage its features to support teaching and learning. The community provides a supportive environment for sharing experiences, exchanging ideas, reflecting on instructional practices, and continuously enhancing courses in Canvas.
Timeline
Applications open on July 17th, and they close on August 14th, 2026.
Applicants will be notified of the decision during the week of August 24th, 2026.
Canvas Learning Community Outcomes
Use Canvas features to design and enhance accessible, student-centered courses that support effective teaching and learning.
Implement evidence-informed strategies for organizing course content, communication, assessment, and student engagement using Canvas.
Collaborate with peers to share ideas, provide constructive feedback, and reflect on the use of Canvas for instructional purposes.
Develop a digital portfolio that showcases the design, implementation, and reflection of Canvas course artifacts created throughout the learning community.

Who Can Apply?
Program Information
Attend five bi-weekly meetings one-hour each in the Fall and five in the Spring semester. The tentative meeting schedule has been provided below.
Engage in foundational learning related to digital pedagogy and Canvas.
Completion of a Canvas related project at the end of the year-long program.
Become a Canvas champion for your field of study.
Some of the topics that will be covered include User Experience (UX) design, instructional frameworks, assessment design, Canvas tools for assessments and learning experiences, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).

- Meeting 1: Week of September 21st, 2026
- Meeting 2: Week of October 5th, 2026
- Meeting 3: Week of October 19th, 2026
- Meeting 4: Week of November 2nd, 2026
- Meeting 5: Week of November 16th, 2026
- No Meeting in December: Work on Project
Spring Semester
- Meeting 6: Week of February 8th, 2027
- Meeting 7: Week of February 22nd, 2027
- Meeting 8: Week of March 8th, 2027
- Meeting 9: Week of March 22nd, 2027
