CTE Position and Role

Jean Layne serves as a Lead Educational Consultant on the Educational Development and Recognition (EDR) team at the Center for Teaching Excellence.

Relevant Academic and Professional Experience

Jean joined the CTE in 1994, worked on a college-based collaborative grant project from 2000-2005, and returned to the Center in 2005. Her faculty development experience includes early work on the Teaching Assistant Institute, instructional consultation for individuals and groups, course design, teaching portfolio, faculty learning communities, active engagement of learners, peer review process development, instructional professional development plans, new faculty orientation, teaching impact, and teaching recognition/awards. She holds an MS in Higher Education and a BA in French.

Professional Profile

Jean is committed to helping faculty identify teaching strategies that align with their instructional goals and teaching context to maximize student learning. Successful teaching is an energy renewing activity and supports a teaching impact narrative useful for annual review, awards nominations, and mentoring of colleagues and graduate students.
