Certain services, such as classroom observations and private consultations, are reserved for current instructors. However, other services are open to non-teaching international graduate students, and if space permits, international undergraduate students, post-docs, and visiting scholars as well.
Classroom Observations
Receive feedback from a consultant on observed classroom communication strategies. Set goals, plan and rehearse strategies, and self-assess one's classroom teaching.
Private Consultations
Create an individualized plan for language development. Practice and receive feedback. Identify tools and strategies for self-directed language improvement.
Conversation Partnerships
Develop fluency and an awareness & appreciation for cultural difference.
Microteaching Feedback Sessions
Practice teaching and giving oral presentations, focusing on clear pronunciation, appropriate body language, effective use of visual aids, engagement with the audience, and confidence.
Practice Groups
Rehearse functional language for instruction; learn to anticipate and repair common communication breakdowns; develop peer support, pronunciation, and fluency; and cultivate an appreciation for cultural differences.
Conversation Circles
Converse informally in a small group facilitated by an ELP staff member, on any topic they are interested in discussing.
Workshops
Develop phonological awareness and an appreciation for linguistic diversity.
Language Laboratories
Develop pronunciation accuracy, listening discrimination, understanding of the vocal tract, and automaticity.

What is the time commitment for a conditionally certified TA?
The short answer is five hours per week until the TA reaches Level 1. Conditionally certified TAs are required to first complete an intake assessment with a CTE-ELP consultant. The consultant will then work with the TA to build a customized schedule composed of five hours a week of workshops and other practice activities. Once the TA takes the ELPE (or another recognized test) and achieves a Level 1 score, they are released from this requirement.
How much does it cost to participate in the CTE-ELP?
All services provided by the CTE-ELP are free.
I’ve been told I need to have an intake assessment with CTE-ELP. How do I sign up for that?
Send an email to cte-elp@tamu.edu with your name and UIN and request an intake assessment. Please note, intake assessments are reserved for current Teaching Assistants (TAs/GAT/GAL) and faculty members.
How do I know my certification level?
