After teaching preservice teachers as an adjunct lecturer for five years in Texas A&M University’s Department of Teaching, Learning, and Culture (TLAC), Sam expanded her role. She currently works as an Instructional Consultant in the Center for Teaching Excellence, where her main role is to facilitate the Program (Re)Design process with programs interested in taking a deep dive into their existing curriculum or in creating a new program. 

Sam recently earned a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M, with a concentration on Teacher Education and Technology. Her post-K-12 education started at Texas A&M, where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, with a minor in math, in 1997.  From there, Sam continued her academic journey earning a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, with an emphasis in science, from Texas A&M in 1998. During her Master’s work, Sam served as a research assistant on an interdisciplinary NASA-funded project aimed to produce teaching materials using real-time data collected from the TOPEX/Poseidon satellite.
Once finished with her Master’s Degree, Sam worked as a public school teacher for nine years having taught 4th grade math/science/social studies for 2 years in College Station ISD and 6th grade math for 7 years in Canyon ISD. It was after leaving the public school system that Sam joined Texas A&M’s TLAC Department an adjunct lecturer. During her time as a lecturer, Sam taught Science Methods in the Senior Methods block and both Curriculum and Instruction and Classroom Management in the Junior Methods block.
In her role as educational developer, Sam is passionate about working with faculty to transition their pedagogical paradigms into those that incorporate rich evidence-based, innovative pedagogies that engage and motivate students to take an active role in their learning.
