Sustained Actvities

Sustained faculty development opportunities are designed so that faculty can devote extended time - from six weeks to an entire semester - to questions related to teaching. There are two models - the One-Semester Teaching Enhancement Program and Faculty Learning Communities.

Teaching First Year Students Faculty Learning Community

An opportunity to join colleagues to discuss issues that you may be facing as you teach first year students. Questions such as: How do first year students differ from other students? What learning strategies do they need to be successful learners at TAMU? How might your teaching affect the transitional challenges the first year students are facing? Will your teaching enhance their learning or impede their learning? If you would like to learn more about the current first year students and obtain ideas regarding teaching strategies such as involving the students in the classroom, encouraging active reading, and supporting active study practices this faculty/staff learning community (FSLC) is for you. Articles and experiences will be shared through facilitated discussion. Each participant will receive a copy of the book “Teaching First-Year College Students” along with a selection of supporting materials. Meetings will be from 3:30-5:00 p.m. every other Thursday beginning January 29 in Blocker 132.
