Debra Fowler, Ph.D.

Biographical Information

Debra Fowler joined the CTE as Associate Director in July 2005, after working for two years at Georgia Tech’s Center for the Enhancement of Teaching & Learning. She completed her undergraduate degree in chemistry from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 1984, and joined Dow Chemical in research and development. Over a period of fifteen years, as her responsibilities grew, her expertise developed to include R&D operations management, human resource management, facilitation, recruitment, and university relations. Curiosity about how people learn motivated her to pursue research interests in metacognition and learning strategies. She graduated from Texas A&M University with a Ph. D. in Interdisciplinary Engineering in 2003, with a focus on engineering education.

Dr. Fowler's current interests include research-guided faculty development with an emphasis on the development and use of learning outcomes in both course and curriculum design. In addition, she is committed to helping faculty understand how their students learn and how to help their students develop critical thinking skills.
