Teaching Assistant Certificate of Completion

In July 2013, Texas A&M University reaffirmed a mandate that oversees the process of training future TAs. To learn more about this mandate, visit The Office of Graduate and Professional Studies (OGAPS) website: New Teaching Assistant Training and Evaluation Program (TATEP)

TAs with responsibilities that include leading recitation, conducting or assisting in labs, and assuming full responsibility of teaching, regardless of job title, are required by university-mandate to earn a Certificate of Completion for TAI.

To earn a Certificate of Completion from the Teaching Assistant Institute, each TA must perform the following:

Requirement 1: Complete the TAI Online Preparation Course

IMPORTANT NOTE: You cannot access this module via SSO/TrainTraq; ignore any message you might see to sign off and go to SSO.
  1. Access the course by clicking this link or copying and pasting it into your browser: https://apps7.system.tamus.edu/TrainTraq/web/External/ExternalGatewayLogon.aspx.

  2. ​EMAIL: Sign on using your TAMU email address if it DOES NOT contain underscore (_) or dash (-) characters. If you do not have a TAMU email address or if your TAMU email address has an underscore (_) or dash (-) characters, you may use a personal email which does not contain one or more underscore or dash characters.
  3. PASSWORD: The password for the preparation course is cor^net!Pe-arl84 . The password is not your TAMU password.

  4. Search for and complete course 2111828 – Teaching Assistant Institute Preparation – CTE(NOTE: You are encouraged to complete this course before attending the face-to-face session; however, it must be completed no later than September 10, 2018.) 
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please ensure that the email that you enter is valid and accurate. You will receive your online completion certificate at this email address, as well as instructions to follow to finalize your required training.

Requirement 2: Complete the TAI Face-to-Face Seminar

​Register at ERS.TAMU.EDU. Please see your college/department's assigned TA Training date below.

If a TA cannot attend on the assigned day, he/she may attend any of the scheduled sessions.
Pre-registration is recommended at ers.tamu.edu, even if TA attends on assigned day.

For main campus, registration begins at 7:30 with the first session starting at 8:00. 
Training will be completed by 5:00 each day.

Important Information and Dates

  1. Online Preparation course opens July 23rd and closes September 10th. TAs must complete the course during this time period.

  2. The last opportunity for the face-to-face session is Saturday, September 8th.

  3. All components must be completed by September 10th - no exceptions. 

  4. TAs will receive their Certificates of Completion directly from the TA's department. 

  5. Keep an electronic copy of the completion verification that will be emailed to you after you successfully finish the course. You may also share it with your supervisor.

  7. ​As a reminder, TAs who have already received a Certificate of Completion for TAI do not need to complete training again. Departments can check the compliance status of a TA assigned to their unit on the TATEP Compliance System.
