Aggies Celebrate Teaching

The Center for Teaching Excellence will host the 3rd annual Aggies Celebrate Teaching! – Recognizing Transformational Learning reception. The event is a time for us to acknowledge outstanding Texas A&M instructors and faculty members who, through their dedication to transformational practices, have made a significant impact on their students through their teaching.

Transformational Teaching

“Teaching that encourages students to question assumptions and challenge beliefs… such that they emerge from the experience a changed perspective influencing interactions and contributions to a modern world.”

-Dr. Debra Fowler, Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence

The Center for Teaching Excellence will highlight faculty and their transformational teaching strategies in various ways - sharing on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/TamuCTE/), highlighting on our web site (cte@tamu.edu), and showcasing award recipients at our Aggies Celebrate Teaching! event, to be held on March 21, 2019 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Texas A&M Hotel and Conference Center.

Texas A&M students are invited to nominate a faculty member or instructor who has made an impact on them during their educational journey - inspiring change in their thinking, challenging them to think in new ways, or supporting their learning in a way that transformed their educational experience. Students who choose to nominate will be able to share their experiences through a call for nominations that includes a required minimum 1000-1500 word essay.

If you have an instructor or faculty member that you would like to nominate, please click here.
Students who submit a nomination before midnight on December 14, 2018 ...extended to January 4th!!!... will be entered in a drawing to win a YETI Tundra 45 cooler! You do not need to be one of the six selected essays to win the Yeti cooler. The final deadline for submissions is midnight February 1, 2019.

Aggies Celebrate Teaching!, an invitation-only event, will feature six students chosen from the nominations received to share their educational experiences at the awards reception. The review committee will select up to 2 graduate students and at least 4 undergraduate students - for a total of 6 students. Each student will be given 5 minutes to share their transformational experience, as well as their instructor or faculty member's impact on their education. Following student testimonials, the instructor or faculty member will also be given 5 minutes to share comments and their perspective on transformational teaching practices.

Each student selected will receive a $500 education grant and the instructor awarded will receive a $1,500 professional development grant to support the continuation of exceptional teaching practices.
